Only a few showers and storms on Memorial Day

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:54:28 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Partly cloudy skies continue the rest of the night. We'll carry a low (10%) rain chance, but most of the time looks dry and partly cloudy with overnight lows in the upper 60s.Memorial Day stormsThe Memorial Day forecast has continued to trend drier, but a few showers and storms remain possible. What looks likely to happen is that a cluster of more widespread storms will miss us to the southwest and south while robbing our area of some of the moisture and instability needed to bring us more rain. That being said, we still think a few spotty showers and storms remain possible, especially Monday afternoon and evening.GRAF Model output for Monday afternoonI've lowered rain coverage further to 30% for Monday and I think much of the day will be dry. At best the rain coverage is scattered, but most of the time it's rather isolated.Memorial Day rain chancesAny downpours and storms could still bring some localized heavy rain and a 1 out of 4 flash flood threat still exists f...

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A years-long fight to close a controversial legal gap known as the "dead suspect loophole" has finally come to an end. This development comes days after the one-year anniversary of the Uvalde mass shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers, which put a spotlight on the importance of public records, transparency and the truth. After some back-and-forth disagreements, on the last full day of the legislative session, the House and Senate hammered out a last-minute compromise on HB 30. With both chambers signing off, the bill now goes to the governor to sign into law.At issue was the "dead suspect loophole," an exemption in the Texas Public Information Act that gives police discretion to withhold records from the public in cases where a suspect doesn't go through the court process. It has been used to block records from being released in cases where a suspect dies in police custody -- the focus of a six-year KXAN investigation.Problems caused by the 'dead suspect l...

That is, passing the late Don Baylor for the second-most wins among Rockies managers in franchise history.Black deftly danced around the topic and told anecdotes about pitching to Baylor during his playing days.“I think I hit Baylor more than any player I faced,” Black said. “He was a tough guy. He stood right on top of the plate and never moved!”Sunday, when the Rockies held on to beat the Mets, 11-10, in a Coors Field hit parade, Black notched the 441st win of his Colorado career, moving him past Baylor. OAKLAND – The Oakland A’s have had four players come off the injured list this month. A handful of others will be eligible to come off the IL in the coming days and weeks.Considering the sorry state of the A’s pitching staff, no player will be welcomed back more than right-hander and 2022 all-star Paul Blackburn, who is set to start Monday against Matt Olson and the Atlanta Braves.Blackburn might not be a savior, but his return to Oakland can’t come soon enough, especially after the A’s were blasted 10-1 on Sunday by the Houston Astros, who set a new record for the 55-year-old Coliseum by hitting seven home runs.Yordan Álvarez hit two homers, and Jake Meyers, Chas McCormick, Jose Altuve, José Abreu, and Jeremy Peña each connected on one as the Astros swept the three-game series and handed the A’s (10-45) their 11th straight loss, their longest skid in close to three decades.Luis Medina gave up Meyers’ three-run shot in the fourth inning and allowed back-to-ba...
